Ingredients/Compontents of Cottage pudding(actually a cake) recipe

  • all-purpose flour - 2 c
  • baking powder - 3 tsp
  • salt - 1/3 tsp
  • sugar - 3/4 c
  • egg - 1 item
  • melted shortening - 2 Tbsp
  • whole milk - 1 c
  • Add sugar, egg, shortening and milk
  • water - 1 c
  • sq - 2 oz
  • whole milk - 1/2 c
  • cornstarch - 2 Tbsp
  • vanilla - 1 tsp
  • Add chocolate grated or broken into small bits
  • water - 1 c
  • grated lemon rind - 1/2 tsp
  • cornstarch - 1 Tbsp
  • lemon juice - 2 Tbsp
  • salt - 1/8 tsp

How to make cottage pudding(actually a cake)

Sift flour, salt and baking powder together. Add sugar, egg, shortening and milk. Mix to a stiff batter. Bake in an 8 x 8-inch greased pan at 350° for 30 minutes or until center springs back when pressed or straw comes out clean. Serve with chocolate or lemon sauce.Chocolate Sauce For Cottage Pudding:1/2 c. sugar1 c. water2 (1 oz.) sq. unsweetened chocolate1/2 c. whole milk2 Tbsp. cornstarch1 tsp. vanilla Boil sugar and water together to form a syrup. Add chocolate (grated or broken into small bits). Cook for 10 minutes or until chocolate is melted. Moisten cornstarch with milk and stir into boiling syrup. Cook 5 more minutes. Add vanilla. Serve hot over Cottage Pudding.Lemon Sauce For Cottage Pudding:1/3 c. sugar1 c. water1/2 tsp. grated lemon rind1 Tbsp. cornstarch2 Tbsp. lemon juice1/8 tsp. salt Combine sugar, cornstarch and water and cook in double boiler over hot water until thickened. Remove from heat and add remaining ingredients. Serve hot over Cottage Pudding.
